Green Scare: The Case of the Eco-Eleven

On December 7th 2005, the FBI swept seven activists into custody in four 
separate states. By mid-January warrants had been issued for a total of 
twelve people, with the threat that more would be arrested by the time 
“Operation Backfire” was completed. Accused of conspiring to carry out 
actions on behalf of the Animal and Earth Liberation Fronts, eleven 
people from the Northwest activist community have been branded 
terrorists by the US government and media, and communities are being 
ripped apart by grand juries and FBI-paid informants in the process.

Is this Justice?

Come out on Friday, March 10th to hear a first-hand account about the 
case from Darren Thurston’s Support Committee*, learn about grand juries 
in the United States and discuss how the long arm of the US government 
is reaching into our community right now. Support is needed in the face 
of this assault on our civil liberties, our freedom and our lives.

* Darren Thurston is a local BC activist who was arrested December 7th 
and is currently awaiting federal conspiracy charges in Portland,
