Vancouver Indymedia Returns

Public meeting to discuss a new format for Vancouver Indymedia
Spartacus Books
319 West Hastings, 2nd Floor
Thursday May 4th
6pm

As many of you know, BC Indymedia was conceived as a collaboration between the
Vancouver, Victoria and Kamloops Indymedia collectives as a way of reducing
editorial workload and combining our limited resources and energy. The site
was originally designed to act as a newswire and portal into the three local
sites which would in turn continue to manage their own feature stories.

However, the experiment did not pan out as planned. BC Indymedia has been
maintained for the past year by a small collective of volunteers based in
Vancouver. As a result, we have decided to resurrect Vancouver Indymedia using
Drupal as the content management system. This will give the editorial collective
and Indymedia users much greater control over the flow of information on the
site. The new system has specific tools for dealing with trolls and spammers,
our biggest problems to date.

To make it all work in a way that will result in the best possible site we
need your help and feedback. We are hosting a public meeting at Spartacus
Books (319 West Hastings, 2nd floor) on May 4th at 6pm where we will be giving
an overview of how the new site will function and hearing your ideas on how to
proceed from here.

If you are a regular user of Indymedia you really should come out. We're
planning on a mid-May launch at which time BC Indymedia will enter archive
mode and potential contributors will be re-directed to the new Vancouver
Indymedia site.

If you would like to preview the new site you can see it at
http://ender.indymedia.org.

We look forward to hearing from you.
