The South Asian Network for Secularism and Democracy invites you to a public
meeting:
Unthinkable, undrinkable: Coca Cola in India
SATURDAY OCOTBER 29TH from 2-5 pm
Room 1600, SFU Harbour Center (515 West Hastings)
WITH SPEAKERS:
* Alfredo Porras: Coca Cola worker in Colombia for 20 years, serving as a union
leader of SINATRAIL and key negotiator of collective agreements. He has been
targeted, arrested and had an assassination attempt on his life; and finally,
he fled as a political refugee to Canada. Alfredo will speak about the struggle
of unions in Colombia, particularly the Coca Cola Union, and the violation
against its members and workers. He will also speak about the price workers pay
for globalization and the tragic toll paid by families and communities.
* Trade Union representative
* Harsha Walia: local activist and writer from India, where she supported
various peoples struggles against corporate globalization and
Coca-Colonization.
* Student union representative
and introduced by Kirat Kaur: board member of SANSAD and organizer with BRU
Within the past two years, the campaign against Coca-Cola has grown in strength
with actions across the world. Thousands of public actions, mobilizations,
rallies, forums and conferences have revealed to the international community
the horrors perpetrated by and on behalf of Coca Cola. In solidarity with our
sisters and brothers in Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala, Peru, USA, Venezuela,
Palestine, Turkey, Iran, and India, SANSAD has initiated a sustained campaign
to bring awareness and take concrete action against Coca-Cola Abuses in India.
