Yo All.

Please let your Vancouver contacts know about the one hour leafletting @
11:00am outside the CCC to support victims of Chinese Head Tax/Exclusion . See
following CCNC media release. I'll be there with a few BC Coalition people. At
noon, we'll decide how to proceed.

Also will suggest to everyone to bring signs and placards and again muster @
1:00pm CCC to greet the Prime Minister @ 2:00pm at SUCCESS in Chinatown (fifty
yards away). How about "NCCC doesn't speak for me" and Raymond Chan betrays
Head Tax Payers." I just got a cloth BC Coalition of Head Tax Payers, Spouses
and Descendants banner made. No Chinese on it though. Take care. anon Sid

Redress Seeking Groups Announce Day of Action

Redress-seeking Groups announced plans for a Day of Action to protest the Head
Tax signing in Ottawa yesterday. BC Coalition of Head Tax Payers, Spouses and
Descendants and the Ontario Coalition of Chinese Head Tax payers and Families
with the support of allies and other equality-seeking groups will organize
public events on Saturday in Vancouver and Toronto.

"This is lame-duck Liberal government even mistakenly listed the Chinese
Canadian National Council as one of the groups “supporting” the agreement
yesterday. We DO NOT support the Head Tax agreement because it excludes the
actual victims of the Head Tax and Chinese Exclusion Act,” Victor Wong, CCNC
Executive Director said today. “This speaks to the lack of due diligence on the
file. There are other groups mistakenly listed as supporters.”

“These mistakes happen when you rush a deal,” Sid Tan, Co-ordinator of BC
Coalition of Head Tax Payers, Spouses and Descendants said today. “This is
becoming an expensive election photo-op for taxpayers. Its shameful what the
Government is doing.”

"The Prime Minister Paul Martin wasn’t even present at the signing,” George
Lau, Co-Chair of the Ontario Coalition of Chinese Head Tax payers and Families
said today. “It speaks to the lack of respect that this Government has for the
Head Tax payers and their families.”
