REDWIRE is Hiring ! !The staff got too old and now we need fresh red blood.


Redwire Native Youth Media Society is a media and arts organization
dedicated to Native youth expression. We strive to provide Native youth
with an uncensored forum for discussion. We are by, for and about
Native youth; all content, editorial decisions and associated media
projects are initiated and led by youth, inspiring creativity,
motivation and action.

We are looking for young brown, brilliant people to fill the following
positions¡K¡K
We can offer some training if needed.


Editor ~ (25 hrs/ week)
£c Develop themes for each issue (with youth advisory and staff input)
and ensure variety
£c Distribute call-outs for magazine submissions
£c Receive, keep track of, and respond to Redwire submissions
£c Maintain lists of contributors with contact and address information
£c Work with staff and contributors to develop their articles
£c Write editorials
£c Editing of submissions
£c Develop outreach programs with Youth Project Coordinator to involve
new contributors
£c Update www.redwiremag.com with news and events
£c Coordinate youth advisory meetings monthly with the Youth Project
Coordinator
£c Involvement in media workshops
£c Represent Redwire at conferences, workshops or community events.

What we are looking for¡K
¡E Experience with journalism in a volunteer, educational or
professional capacity
¡E Degree or proven ability in English language grammar, spelling,
writing methods etc.
¡E Ability to meet deadlines and enforce deadlines with contributors
¡E Working knowledge of or interest in learning desktop publishing
programs
¡E Skilled organizer
¡E Knowledge of media legal issues an asset
¡E Excellent communication skills
¡E Someone who genuinely enjoys written media



Arts Director
~(15hrs/ week, with the opportunity to create more hours through new
projects)
£c Develop over-all artistic vision for each issue (with youth advisory

and staff input)
£c Develop design concepts and create photographs or artwork to use in
the magazine
£c Review and manage art submissions
£c Desktop Publishing and graphic design of the printed material
£c Present the information visually, so that it is eye catching,
appealing, and organized
£c Manage Redwire Review and Arts Section, include images for each
review
£c Coordinate event tickets for Redwire reviewers
£c Maintain connections with the arts and culture community
£c Curate the Awaken100 website

What we are looking for¡K.
¡E Fine Art training at a post secondary level or professional
experience
¡E Experience graphic design or desktop publishing software
¡E Familiarity with the Arts community an asset
¡E Able to meet deadlines, flexibility, adaptability.
¡E Must have excellent communication skills
¡E Able to network and develop partnerships in the community
¡E Practicing artist or designer, a passion for creation



Layout and Design Coordinator ~(15hrs/ week)
£c Collaboration with Arts Director to execute over-all artistic vision

for the magazine
£c Layout for the magazine
£c Arranging and managing graphics
£c Basic page set up
£c Present the information visually, so that it is eye catching,
appealing, and organized.
£c Desktop Publishing and graphic design of the printed material.

What are we looking for¡K
¡E Knowledge of In-Design, Photoshop, and the Adobe Creative Suite
¡E Knowledge of typography, and basic elements on design
¡E Accredited courses in graphic design or desktop publishing software
¡E Understand Mac OS and cross platform situations
¡E Practicing artist or designer, a passion for creation



Youth Project Coordinator ~ (30 hrs/ week)
- Organize youth forums, consultations, and workshops
- Coordinate Redwire youth advisory council
- Develop Redwire media workshops
- Develop Redwire outreach programs
- Foster partnerships with other organizations locally, nationally,
and internationally
- Involve youth in the urban aboriginal youth research project
¡§Growing Up In Cities¡¨
- Promotion of Redwire

What we are looking for¡K.
- Organization skills and project management experience
- Basic computer skills ( Mac environment) Word, Excel and internet
and email proficiency
- Facilitation skills
- Ability to write reports and give verbal reports/updates
- Must be able to work independently and be self motivated as well as 
a team player
- Previous activist or community organizing experience an asset
- Research skills or interest
- Life experience, activism and volunteering will be considered,
academic achievement or certification is great too.
- Previous work in the Aboriginal community
- Able to meet deadlines, flexibility, adaptability.
- Must have excellent communication skills
- A working knowledge of international indigenous youth issues
organizations, groups and activism would be an asset
- Should have a knowledge of aboriginal community and services in
Greater Vancouver especially those specifically for Aboriginal Youth

productivity, paper pile packages, post offices, prayer, participation,
partnerships, peak performance, peace, people, persistence,
personality, political perversion, pigs?¡K. no not pigs, pretty
pine-trees, poppycock (look it up in the dictionary), pornography? No
not pornography either.. porn isn¡¦t proper, positive places, powwows,
practical jokes, pride,  and PLAY, PLAY PLAY
