Velcrow Ripper speaks on “Using Video as an Activist Tool”


Vancouver - On Febuary 24th, award winning filmmaker Velcrow Ripper, will
be the featured  guest at Cue Up to present clips from his years of
filmmaking and speak about media activism. “We’re excited to have Velcrow 
as a guest at our monthly community event to demonstrate his use of video
as a tool to get people to think and act on issues that are affecting our
world,”  says Hadas Levy, co-founder of Cue Up

Acclaimed filmmaker Velcrow Ripper has directed more than 30 films and
videos, exploring issues from oppression to the environment. His work has
been honored with over 20 awards and screened at major festivals and on
television around the world.
Most recently, ScaredSacred, a feature length documentary, was declared
one of Canada's Top Ten Films of 2004 and won "Best Documentary" at the
2004 Whistler Film Festival. Velcrow is currently working on a novel based
on his ScaredSacred journey.

CUE UP is an evening of open screenings, guest talks and socializingheld
on the last Thrsday of every month.  Producers of video, film and new
media are invited to bring finished or work in progress on mini DV, VHS or
DVD for presentation in an informal setting.  Work is accepted on a first
come first serve basis at 8:00 pm, with presentations and screenings
beginning at 8:30pm at Video In Studios, 1965 Main Street.  This is a free
event and the general public is encouraged to attend.

Levy encourages Vancouver’s video/film community to take advantage of this
unique event saying “There aren’t many free and open screenings quite like
Cue Up anywhere in the world”.
