 ********THE FIFTH ANNUAL PEOPLE'S PROM********

	     DON'T JUST VOTE. DO SOMETHING!

oh my god, is it that time of year again? yes it is! The FIFTH ANNUAL
 PEOPLE'S PROM is set to rock your tux off again this year.

as you may already know, The People's Prom is east van's revolutionary kick
 ass antidote to valentine's day. it's cheap, fun, and all the money
raised goes into the People's Trust Fund, which is used to fund
individuals and groups doing grassroots creative resistance or direct
action work. this being a double election year in BC (both civic and
provincial elections will be held this year.) be louder than a ballot box
checkmark, do something in your community around any of the many
struggles
effected by provincial cut backs or civic big business pandering.
 (like what? you ask. cuts to women's centres, the safe streets act,
welfare reform, the RAV line, and the Olympics to name a few).
all money raised will be donated to groups doing creative
resistance in any area of civic (any city in BC) or provincial governance.

 share the wealth.

we need humans for:
.	postering - they don't put themselves up
.	set up - create the space
.	clean up - help us get our damage deposit back
.	chaperones - keep the peace, secure the vibe, make sure couples are
 dancing one balloon-width apart
.	the bar - pour drinks, take money, serving it right preferred
.	the kissing booth - kiss people, break hearts, kissing it right
 required
.	door - greet the kids, take their money
.	coat check - be the first to glimpse the unveiling of hot prom
outfits

for your time, you will get free entrance and a special gift. you can
 volunteer as long as you like in as many areas as you like, but we need
you to commit to at least 1 hour. we will be having a volunteers meeting
on saturday february 12th that you need to attend.

this year the people's prom is celebrating its 5th anniversary. to
 commemorate east van's hottest anti-valentine's-day event the prom committee
is putting together a zine. so...if you have a prom-thot to share, a sassy
 picture of your outfit, some prom-related art, or a memory of the prom:
become a contributor. we will try to include everything sent to us, as
long as it is prom-related. if you have nothing to contribute other than
your yearning for another, consider the hook-up section. (just read on)

did you hook up with someone at the prom last year only to have their
 lipstick-inked number rub off when you were struggling out of your frock?
well, you can try again by placing a hook-up ad in this year's zine. just
send your 25-word ad to the prom committee, and we'll do our darnest to
hook
you up. (there is no charge for the ad, but we will only post prom-related
 material).

if you can contribute, the deadline is Thursday February 3 2005 and all
 contributions are sent to peoplesprom at resist.ca.

by the way, there is a complete ban on poetry for this zine. beware!
