Call to Action from the Christian Peacemakers Teams
December 10th is International Human Rights Day:
Christian Peacemaker Teams calls for all people of
conscience around the world to initiate non-violent
public actions for peace and for prayer from December
9th to December 11th in support of international human
rights and in support of ending war and occupation.
The Iraqi group holding four missing Christian
Peacemaker Team members has extended their timeline
for the release of all Iraqi prisoners until Saturday,
December 10th, 2005.
We remain concerned about our team-mates Harmeet
Sooden, James Loney, Norman Kember, and Tom Fox, and
we ask for their release. We also remain concerned
about the well-being of all Iraqis who are suffering
under occupation.
Those who are with our team-mates have demanded the
release from captivity of the Iraqi detainees held in
United States and Iraqi prisons.
Christian Peacemaker Teams believes that no single
person, no single nation can meet the demands of
Justice.
No single person, no single nation can meet the
demands of Peace.
But we believe that it is everyones responsibility to
do their part to bring each combatant and each captive
home to their families and to end the war and
occupation.
If you can organize an event between December 9th and
December 11th, or can include a response to our call
as part of an event you already had planned, please
register your event through our website, www.cpt.org,
under "Events, Demonstrations, and Prayers Vigils."
There is a link to the registry on the home page.
We are deeply grateful for the ongoing support and
solidarity of the global movement for peace and social justice.
