The Work Less Party presents "InTentCity"
On April 19th, the Work Less Party will be organizing a sleep-in outside the
legislative buildings in Victoria.
Governmental policies such as encouraging property speculation, and bringing
the 2010 Olympics to Vancouver are continuing to push property prices and
the cost of rentals to insanely high record levels.
The consequence is that more and more people are being forced onto the
streets. In the past 3 years the number of people forced to live in the
streets has doubled.
To make matters worse, instead of trying to help the people who can no
longer afford to live in homes, the government of BC and city councils have
been
following policies that make life for homeless people unbearable.
It has become illegal to sleep in public spaces, park benches are being
replaced with benches that people can't sleep on, homeless people are
routinely harassed by the police and the safe streets legislation
criminalizes panhandling.
It is inhumane to follow policies that force people onto the streets at the
same time as criminalizing them for having no place to live.
The Work Less Party is demanding:
- that the workweek be reduced to 32 hours so that there will be more job
opportunities and unemployment will decrease
- that we put a capital gains tax on property speculation and foreign
ownership of BC property.
- that we stop promoting get-rich schemes like the Olympics that make it
unbearably expensive to live in Vancouver
- that we stop criminalizing people who can't afford to live in this grossly
expensive city
- that the beautiful lawns of the legislative building be turned into a
homeless shelter so that our elected officials can't continue ignoring the
homeless issue (especially in 2010, when the Olympics hit Vancouver).
On Tuesday April 19th, we will begin gathering outside the legislative
building in Victoria at 3pm.
All are invited. We need your support
