CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
300 volunteers are needed for the 19th AIDS WALK in Stanley Park on Sunday

time while raising funds for direct services for persons living with AIDS.
Volunteers are needed for various shifts on the day of the event as well as
the months leading up to the walk. They receive a AIDS WALK t-shirt as well
as an invitation to a special recognition party. There are opportunities for
anyone willing to help. Here is just a sampling of some of the positions
available:
° Registration - tallying pledge forms & donations on WALK (cash
handling experience an asset)
° Office - answering phones, mailings, database input, preparing
team and individual kits
° Set-up & Tear Down - assisting in setting up and tearing down the
AIDS WALK site

duration of the day

beautiful Stanley Park

collecting, distributing money tins
° Ambassadors - information & security (excellent communications
skills needed)
° Route Monitors - assisting walkers in navigating their way around
the two WALK routes
All proceeds from AIDS WALK go to direct services for persons living with
HIV and AIDS in your community. These services are provided through the BC
Persons With AIDS Society or one of our 10 community partner organizations
(YouthCo AIDS Society, ASIA, Pediatric AIDS Society, A Loving Spoonful,
Friends For Life, Healing Our Spirit, McLaren Housing, Positive Women's
Network, Surrey HIV Centre, and Wings Housing).
Over twenty years have passed since the first cases of AIDS appeared,
leaving doctors and researchers perplexed and without answers. Since that
time, there have been many medical advances that have greatly improved the
quality of life for people living with AIDS however with more than 55,000
Canadians infected with HIV, and 12,000 in BC - the fight is far from over.
Events like the AIDS WALK play a critical role in increasing community
awareness and funds for people living with HIV/AIDS.
