DEMONSTRATION AGAINST LORNE MAYENCOURT AND THE SAFE STREETS ACT

On this date Vancouver-Burrard Liberal MLA Lorne Mayencourt will be having
his annual fundraising dinner. It will be a love-in for this back-bencher
MLA and his poor-bashing friends.

Lorne Mayencourt has been spearheading his government's latest attacks on
poor people through the Safe Streets Act and Trespass to Property Act.
These acts seek to criminalize, fine and jail poor people for being poor.
The BC Liberals have cut welfare and disAbility benefits, slashed social
housing, closed women centres, and when their policies create more
poverty, they attack the poor.

The twice bankrupt Mayencourt is now pushing this morally bankrupt
legislation against poor and homeless people. Many queer youth are forced
to leave abusive home situations and consequently they make up a
disproportionately high percentage of street youth. As queers we are
disgusted not only at this blatant attack on the poor, but also that a
queer man is pushing legislation which attacks queer youth.

Enough is enough. We must continue to unite our communities and struggles
to topple this Liberal government and their poor-bashing, racist, sexist,
homophobic and colonialist agenda.
