FOR BC INDIGENOUS SOVERIEGNTY
BENEFIT FOR SUTIKALH
sat.oct.23rd, 7:00PM-12:00PM
at the Dogwood Centre, 706 Clarke Drive
<corner of Clarke and Georgia>
On May 2nd 2000 the Statimx people escalated the struggle to stop the
Melvin Creek Ski Resort development by building a traditional pithouse and
camp. The Cayoosh Mountains, between Mount Currie and Lilloeet north of
Whistler on Hwy99, are home to grizzley bears, mountain goats, wolverines,
wildcats and are abundant with alpine life. A ski resort of the size
Nancy Greene and Al Raine have in mind would permanantly damage the high
quality water sources found in watershed such as Melvin Creek. No work
has been done on the resort since the soveriegnty camp was erected. If
there is not work done by August 15th 2005 they would have to go through
the painstaking process of re-applying for an environmental assessment
order, this would effectively defeat this resort proposal. This is the
big year for Sutikalh.
The benefit is to raise funds for building supplies and bulk food for winter.
