MORE BACKGROUND INFO:

Ana Teresa Rueda Lozada

She is the coordinator of 2 of the 7 women’s centres (Casas de Mujer) in
Barrancabermeja (in the municipality of San Pablo and the Central region of
Barrancabermeja). Ana is a member of the general secretariat and the
leadership team of the OFP as well as coordinator of the training program.
Ana Teresa has extensive experience in community development and human
rights training and advocacy. In 2002, she completed a course in human
rights training under the auspices of the Andean Program for Human Rights
and Democracy of the European Union. Within the OFP, Ana Teresa is a leader
in training and education at a community level on gender, human rights,
citizenship and health. She has participated in seminars, meetings and
workshops in England, Germany, Holland and Belgium as well as throughout
Colombia.

Organizacion Femenina Popular (OFP) – the Popular Feminist Organization

The OFP was founded in 1972, and works at a grassroots level with more than
3,000 women in the region of Magdalena Medio in programs which include
integrated community development, human rights of women, education and
advocacy. In the last three years, the OFP, seen as a model in Colombia of
women’s resistance against the war, has opened offices in other parts of
Colombia including Bogota, Cartegana and Neiva. In the last five years the
OFP has built a national movement of women against the war, based on its
work with grassroots women. The OFP is also active in national and
international movements of women against the war including la Ruta Pacifica,
a national feminist peace movement, and the international movement, Women in
Black.

In the present context of increased repression and reprisal against social
organizations, the focus of KAIROS’ partnership with the OFP has been on
providing visible accompaniment and supporting their work in peace and human
rights. In August 2001, KAIROS supported the International and National
Mobilization of Women Against War organized by the OFP and la Ruta Pacifica.
In July 2002, we supported the OFP’s participation in the National Movement
of Women Against War, which brought together 30,000 women from throughout
Colombia. In October 2004 the OFP organized an International Seminar and
Mobilization of Women Building Peace, which KAIROS participated in and
sponsored.
