VOLUNTEERS WANTED

  Want to connect with LGBT people and supporters from across Canada? Egale 
Canada is looking for a small group of dedicated volunteers to make phone 
calls to members and volunteers of Egale over the next several weeks.

  The following details some of the potential phoning tasks:

1) Contact people who have purchased Outlaws & Inlaws: Egale's guide to 
same-sex relationships in Canada. The books are finally available in the 
office after being back-ordered for some time. Volunteer phoners will 
confirm orders Egale has already received, obtain the correct mailing 
address, and confirm a method of payment.

2) Contact members of Egale whose addresses have changed. Volunteer phoners 
will try the last known phone number, confirm if that number is correct, and 
then request an updated address.

3) Contact members and volunteers and conduct a simple survey. The survey 
seeks to determine opinions on Egale membership. Currently one must make a 
financial donation to Egale to be considered a Member. However, Egale would 
like to survey members and volunteers to determine the potential impact of 
designating Membership on dedicated volunteers.

  Ideal volunteer phoning candidates have the following qualities:

-> available on Tuesday or Wednesday nights in the evening (7pm-10pm), on a 
short-term, ongoing basis.
-> able to make phone calls from the Egale Office at 310-396 Cooper St, 
downtown Ottawa.
-> comfortable, friendly, and gracious manner on the phone.

  In addition, Egale would like to introduce the following volunteer 
opportunity:

4) The office staff would like to set up a "phone chain" to efficiently 
communicate messages to Egale's volunteers. (Many volunteers do not use 
email, which sometimes limits our reach.) Egale is seeking people who would 
be willing to periodically phone a list of other volunteers to pass on 
important messages about volunteering opportunities. Phoning can be done 
from home or at Egale's office, but ideally in the evening when people are 
most likely to be at home.

  Finally, Nigel is looking for a few volunteers to help with a mailout this 
Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
