7pm: Mainzer Street (English with German subtitles, 90 min.)

Squatters, Gays, Lesbians Fight the Nazis and Cops! A documentary about a squat in East
Berlin in 1990 that skillfully weaves together issues of housing shortage,
xenophobia, patriarchy and capitalism. It examines housing shortages in
Berlin both before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the efforts of a
group of squatters to find homes on Mainzer Street. Squatters talk about
their experiences in specific houses and projects, such as the
Lesbian-Wimmin's House, the FairyGayMen's House, the people's kitchen,
and a street festival. The film then shows their struggle to protect these
advances from politicians, neo-nazis, and police. This is a great film
about squatting in Berlin. It is a great and honest analysis of how people
seek to build new structures of living and the pressures they face.
9pm: Born in Flames (Directed by Lizzie Borden)

Feminist classic BORN IN FLAMES is the futuristic tale of the turmoil that still brews
years after a "peaceful" social revolution. Thwarted by a
system which rejects its minorities, a group of women band together in an
effort to gain control of the state owned media. With humor and style, the
film combines the many cadences of the women's movement - militant,
moderate, hip hop rap, punk cool - to suggest the possibility of a unified voice.
