[van-announce] Help Mobilize for Free Speech

Dear friends,

Earlier this week you received an email about a rightwing attack on our 
hall in Seattle,
Washington because of a window sign calling for "Victory to the Iraqi 
Resistance." We seek
your cyber-help in repelling another attack. This one on the notoriously 
pro-war Fox National
Cable TV News Channel.

On Saturday, May 15, Fox will air a segment about the sign on the show 
"Heartland With
John Kasich." It will be on from 8pm-9pm EST, 5pm-6pm PST. Please watch the 
show and, if
it is as inflammatory as we suspect it will be, email or call in a 
complaint via
<heartland at foxnews.com> or 212-301-3000.

The show regularly lambastes liberal guests and those from the Left--the 
host shouts over
them when they try to make their views known. So, when Fox TV asked FSP to 
be on this
week we sought a guarantee we could get our ideas out. Fox refused and will 
go ahead with
the show about our sign, but without us.

A friend in Indiana called this morning to tell us that Fox is advertising 
the show. The ads
picture New Freeway Hall in Seattle and announce that they'll investigate 
and find out what
this group supporting the Iraqi resistance is about.

We see the slogan in the window to be parallel with calling for the 
immediate withdrawal of
U.S. troops. But even if you don't agree with the slogan, we ask you to 
protect our free
speech right to express it. We've received a number of disturbing threats 
via telephone and
email intended to shut up this particular opposition to the occupation of 
Iraq and Afghanistan.
Americans should be able to discuss the best ways to end the horrible 
violence and war.

With your help, Fox will learn that rightwingers are not the only ones 
capable of organizing a
protest. Thanks in advance!
