This is an update from the ad-hoc group that first met Sunday, May 2 at
the WISE Hall to support the health care workers and build a general
strike.
"Communities in Solidarity with Hospital Workers" has called a rally for
Saturday, May 8 at 12:30 pm, demanding: "Repeal the Deal", "Stop
Privatization, Layoffs and Cuts", and "Campbell Must Go".
There is a working group organizing logistics for the rally meeting
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night at 6:00 pm at 692 E. Hastings. Please
come by if you can help.
This Friday workers are planning an 8am picket of the BC Fed office.
People are encouraged to attend and support.
FLYER / POSTER
The flyer and poster are done and should be up on the web late tonight
(Tuesday, May 4). It will be posted on the resist website (resist.ca) and
hopefully on the generalstrikenews.ca site. Copies will also be available
for pick-up after 1pm Wednesday at the People's Co-op Bookstore on
Commercial Drive, Ken's at 1237 Salsbury (big mailbox), and at the WISE
Hall (for night time postering).
OUTREACH
Leafleting will be happening at the Broadway and Commercial Skytrain
Station at 4 pm (Wed, Thurs, Fri) - people will be there with leaflets and
need folks to come by and help (possibly spread out to more stations).
Poster runs will be going out from the meeting space (692 E. Hastings)
every night at 7:00 pm. We need drivers and paste and brushes.
People will also be going out to hospitals and other HEU sights to
outreach with workers (shift changes are generally at 7am/ 3pm/ 11pm). If
you can go to any locations please coordinate with Ivan
(ivanddrury at yahoo.ca 604-787-5893) or Mark (markdahl at fivethreesix.com
778-863-3441), as we're trying to ensure we get out to the most locations
as possible.
RALLY
There will be banner making during / after the meeting on Friday. People
are gathering speaker possibilities tonight and will be figured out
Wednesday night. We are looking for funds to cover sound system, printing
and banner-making costs.
PLEASE FORWARD information on the rally as we are trying to build this
province-wide.
