Restorative Justice Seminar
A seminar on applying the principles of restorative Justice through First
Nations Traditions and philosophy.
April 10, 2004 - 10 am to 4:30 pm
Aboriginal people have maintained their traditional value systems since time
immemorial. In this seminar the FNATP presents basic philosophies on First
Nations holistic wellness and its applications to restorative Justice
principles. It will also explore methods within criminal justice
processes, especially in relation to Aboriginal offenders. This seminar
proposes alternative strategies which could be applied by those people
involved in the criminal justice system. This seminar also encourages
First Nations communities to further explore and improve their
restorative justice initiatives.
Facilitators:
Rob Ballantyne is a Cree First Nations from Stanley Mission, Sask., an
undergraduate student of First Nations University of Canada. He has been
working as a consultant in Holistic wellness model and its application to
Restorative Justice programming. He worked as a Coordinator in the
implementation of Stanley Mission¡¦s TRADITIONAL HOLISTIC HEALING
CIRCLE, Restorative Justice Sexual abuse Protocol. Through the years in
his journey, Mr. Ballantyne has earned respect of his people as a
Pipe-Carrier/Sweat Holder.
Mariee Williams- Also of Cree Nations heritage spearheaded and has administered
the FNATP program for the past 8yrs in Victoria, BC. She has BA in Psych and
extensive Clinical Drug and Alcohol Counselling background. Because of
her chosen field of occupation, Ms. Williams has gained an extensive
knowledge in the area of Family and Criminal law in relation to Aboriginal
People.

Services, Healthcare and Criminal Justice sectors.
