[van-announce] Human Rights Discussion Groups

     Hello!

     YouthCO will be hosting two upcoming discussion groups with a focus 
on Human
     Rights and HIV/AIDS. Many of you filled out surveys that we 
circulated to
     find out what you wanted to talk/learn about - thanks to all who 
responded,
     your feedback is much appreciated.

     One of the things we found out is that you want a chance to focus 
on the
     importance of the connection between Human Rights and HIV/AIDS. For
     instance, what are our rights when it comes to being tested for 
HIV? How
     can we tell when those rights have been violated and what can we do 
about
     it? This is a chance to get those questions - and MANY others - 
answered!

     It seems like Sunday afternoons were bad for a lot of you, so we have
     rescheduled (for last time, we promise!) to Thursday evenings. The 
details
     are as follows:

     Discussion #1
     Thursday, March 18th - 7:00 - 9:00pm
     #205 - 1104 Hornby Street (at Helmcken)

     Topics will include:

     What are our Rights? - checking out the Universal Declaration of Rights
     Making Connections? - talking to HIV+ and HIV- youth about how 
stigma and
     discrimination contribute to HIV vulnerability
     Sharing Experiences? - what are your experiences/attitudes 
concerning Human
     Rights issues?

     Discussion #2
     Thursday, April 1st - 7:00 - 9:00pm
     #205 - 1104 Hornby Street (at Helmcken)

     Topics will include:

     Even more Rights? - checking out Canada’s Charter of Rights
     Human Rights Violated? - the chance to discuss Human Rights 
violations in
     the context of HIV/AIDS with input from an expert
     What Comes Next? - brainstorm ideas for next steps - what can WE do?

     Munchies will be served and space is LIMITED, so please RSVP to

     ALL youth (all youth under 30 anyway), so spread the word & invite your
     friends!
