IN CHIAPAS, MEXICO

*Human Rights Observer Training *

*When: April 9-12, 2004 (Easter weekend) *
*Where:* A camp in White Rock (cabins, not tents) – alcohol and drug free
camp Cost: Sliding scale: $25 -- $200 (all meals, training workshops and 
training manual included)

We are looking for people who are interested in volunteering as human 
rights observers in Chiapas, or in doing support work for observers.

How can I become a human rights observer?
To be a human rights observer with Building Bridges, you need to:

    * attend a Building Bridges human rights observer training
    * speak conversational Spanish or be willing to learn some Spanish
    * have at least three weeks available to work in Chiapas after
      completing a Spanish immersion course (if necessary)


Must I have previous experience with human rights work?
No. The training is designed for those with no previous experience as
observers.

What will I learn?

    * non-violence skills
    * conflict de-escalation skills
    * cultural sensitivity
    * history and current political situation in Chiapas
    * understanding the Zapatista movement
    * role of a human rights observer



What is the Building Bridges project?
Building Bridges Vancouver is a group of volunteers working in 
collaboration with two human rights organizations in Chiapas (Fray 
Bartolomé Human Rights Centre and Enlace Civil) and supporting their 
work for peace and justice in Mexico. More information available at
