EXPERIENCES UNDER OCCUPATION: PALESTINE & IRAQ
Location: Palestine Community Center, 1874 Kingsway (near Victoria)
Cost: Free

Reception and report back from Melissa and Johanna, two ISM Vancouver 
volunteers who recently returned from Palestine and Iraq.

Johanna spent two months in the West Bank working with ISM and 
Palestinian activists to oppose the apartheid wall in the Jenin region. 
Melissa spent two months with ISM in the Gaza Strip during last fall's 
Israeli military invasions of Rafah in which hundreds of Palestinian 
homes were demolished. Melissa also visited Bagdad and Mosul in January 
2004.

Rally: 1p.m. at Sunset Beach (off Beach Ave at Bute) 
Rally and March on the one-year anniversary of the war on Iraq.

ISM MOVIE NIGHT AT THE CENTRE
Location: Palestine Community Center, 1874 Kingsway (near Victoria)
"Right to Education," "Shebab Dayia" (Lost Youth) and Rachel Corrie 
Memorial
ISM will be having movie nights on the 4th Thursday of Every Month ($2 - 
$5 sliding scale)

ISM NON-VIOLENT DIRECT ACTION (NVDA) TRAINING WEEKEND FOR PALESTINE 
VOLUNTEERS
Location: TBA
Please register by email before March 21: info at ism-vancouver.org

***This training is now required for people who want to volunteer with 
ISM in Palestine. ***

Training topics include:
Human rights monitoring *  Legal briefing & arrest support * Cultural 
considerations * Role-plays of possible scenarios * Preparation, travel 
tips, logistics * ISM structure and role of ISM activist * Non-violence 
principles * Media work & communications * Addressing your hopes & fears 
* Direct-action strategies * Consensus decision making process * Risk 
reduction & first aid for demos

The training is also open to anyone who wants to find out more about the 
ISM, the situation in the Occupied Territories, or direct action 
solidarity work or human rights monitoring.
