StopWar.ca Takes Action on the Farcical Handover of Sovereignty to Iraq.

Gathering at 12 noon, at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Georgia Street, members 
of StopWar.ca
will prepare to tour downtown on a 24' flatbed truck performing street 
theatre to bring
attention to the farcical, deceptive handover of sovereignty to the Iraqi 
people. George Bush,
Condoleeza Rice, and Donald Rumsfeld will be starring in this parody.

  "The war was based on a lie" says organizer, Megan Schlase, "and this 
handover is just a
continuation of the deception. 160,000 US troops, will remain in Iraq, but 
the new
government will have no command over them. 97 legal orders have been enacted 
by Bremer which
are "binding" instructions or directives to the Iraqi people, and the oil 
revenues are redirected to US and British Corporations. Would we in Canada 
accept this as sovereignty?"

The  flatbed truck will be equipped with visuals to emphasize the mock 
celebration of this farcical  US handover of power, and will be augmented 
with a  sandwich board giving 10 important points which show just how 
restrictive sovereignty will be for the Iraqi people.  A satirical 
soundtrack in President Bush's own voice will no doubt cause shoppers to 
stop and take in  the spectacle as the truck moves slowly through the 
downtown.   Stops will be made at busy spots where actors will perform 
street theatre using large puppets.

  This action will culminate at 5 p.m. with a rally on Christ Church 
Cathedral steps at Georgia and Burrard, where speakers from StopWar.ca will 
give a more serious tone to this day of action.
