Bus Riders Say No to the Fare Increase! Public Meeting and Campaign Launch

Where:
Vancouver Public Library 350 W. Georgia, Alma Vandusen Room

When:
Saturday, 24th of July 2004 from 1:00 PM until approximately 3:00 PM

Cost: Free

Next April (2005) TransLink plans to to increase public transit fares
again! This time the fare increase will be across the board: cash fares,
tickets and passes, including youth and seniors concession passes.

The fares are already too high! After two massive fare hikes in the last 5
years most transit dependent people are already struggling to pay the high
fares at a time when wages are stagnant or falling, welfare and other forms of income
assistance have been slashed and public services that people rely on are being gutted.
Most impacted by the high fares are low-wage workers, welfare recipients
and other low-income people, mostly women and disproportionatly people
from immigrant and Aboriginal communities.

But this time bus riders are getting organized to stop the fare increase.
After forcing TransLink to restore Night Owl Buses we know that when bus
riders get organized and take action we can make TransLink back down. Join us
as we come
together to plan, strategize and take action to beat the fare hike.

Free - Refreshments - Children Welcome, Childcare Available
