cutting-edge multimedia show coming to the Segway June 12. WMD will entertain the pants
off you while educating about the dangers of concentrated ownership of the
media, and raise funds for independent media producers and promoting truth
in newscasting.
Building on the momentum of last years sold-out show, which helped galvanize
resistance to the FCCs sellout on restrictions on media ownership, WMD
will kick off with a showing of Amy Goodmans Independent Media in a Time of
War at 8:30.
After this screening, WMD will present an action-packed roster of headline
bands, media art shows, standup comedy, art installations and interactive
activities. Music will be heard on two stages. Headlining the main stage
will be local favorites Clinton Fearon and the Boogie Brown Band, indy
rockers The Bond, and Seattle Weekly Music Award winners nu Soltribe.
Boxcar will emcee and contribute standup comedy. Speakers will be drawn from the
alternative press and broadcast media, including Geov Parrish (Eat the
State, Seattle Weekly), Mahdy Maaweel (Somalisan TV), talk show host Mike
McCormick, Daniel Hannah, Jonathan Lawson, and more.
Art installations will feature work by Steve Anderson, Josh Brown, Larry
Neilson, Jessica X, Paul Luksch, Sara Kavage, Pope Phabulous, Michael
Kasena, and many others. An open mic and poetry program is planned on the back
stage, along with unplugged performers. DJ ShapeShifter will provide
additional music for dancing from the deejay stage.
Beverages will be available at this 21-and-over event.
