FILM/FORUM: Cuban 5 Political Prisoners and Against US Blockade of Cuba
Where:
IWA Hall (2859 Commercial Dr. @ 12th)
When:
Friday, 20th of February 2004 from 6:30 PM until approximately 8:30 PM
Cost: FREE
This Friday, Amigos de Cuba and the Free the Cuban 5 Committee invite you to join us
with City Councillor Tim Louis, the Free the Cuban 5 Committee's Shahdin
Farsai and Amigos de Cuba's Jose Ostorga for free short films and
discussion, debate, and networking in solidarity with Cuba.
This night is part of building solidarity with the Cuban 5 political prisoners
(currently incarcerated in the US for up to 2 life sentences plus 15 years,
for defending Cuba against attacks by terrorist groups in Miami funded by
the CIA), and with the Cuban people, who have been attacked by the brutal US
government's blockade against Cuba for 43 years.
Never screened before in Vancouver, DESAFIO (CHALLENGE) is a short film just
arrived from Cuba about the US government's blockade that is intended to
punish the people of Cuba for their popular support of their revolutionary government.
Next up is a short film featuring Leonard Weinglass, part of the legal defense
team for the Cuban 5, who in his speech to the National Lawyers' Guild exposes
and analyzes the politically charged nature of the case and all the
injustices that went on before, during and after the trial.
