BUILDING RESISTANCE TO DISPLACEMENT AND OCCUPATION
Where:
Palestine Center 1874 Kingsway (@ Victoria)
When:
Friday, 27th of February 2004 from 6:45 PM until approximately 9:00 PM
Cost: FREE
This event is focused on the impacts of the War at Home and the War Abroad. The
so-called war on terrorism has meant state terrorism against populations
throughout the global South, including Afghanistan, Palestine and Iraq,
while around the globe and at home, movements for social justice assert
their dignity through diverse struggles - from the Philippines to
Colombia; from the jungles of Chiapas to the so-called
"reserves" of Turtle Island.
This event will highlight the links between communities displaced from the
South due to imperialist policies of the G8 such as war and neo-liberal
development, and the criminalization they face as immigrant and refugee
communities. This event also asserts and draws inspiration from the
struggles for sovereignty of indigenous peoples and nations who are the
original victims of dispossession on this land.
* Stefan Christoff: activist and writer with No One is Illegal-Montreal
& International Solidarity Movement. Stefan is involved in the
Coalition to Stop the Deportation of Palestinian Refugees and recently
returned from refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan.
* Tamineh: Coordinator of Iranian Federation of Refugees, an extremely
active organization fighting for refugee rights & extremely involved
in the fight against the deportation of Kobra and Hassan last year
* Victor Porter: member of MOSAIC and Latinos in Action
* MEMBER OF NATIVE YOUTH MOVEMENT (TBC)
