US trade unionists build international solidarity

The B.C. Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines
(BCCHRP) invites you to a presentation by trade unionists from the United States on
their recent trip to the Philippines.
Mark and Melissa Dimondstein attended the International Solidarity Affair
(ISA) in the Philippines last year, organized annually by the Kilusang Mayo
Uno (May First Movement) the
Philippines' militant labour centre. Last year's theme was "Expand and Strengthen
International Workers
Solidarity Against Neo-Liberal Globalization and U.S.
Led Military Agression."
The presentation will include the May Day celebration in Manila and a four day
"exposure" where they traveled and met with workers and union
leaders in five workplaces including agricultural workers, sugar can
processing factory workers, electrical workers and garment workers. Mark
and Melissa were also hosted by the government union COURAGE and met with
government workers, such as postal workers.
The presentation will not only share what they have
learned from the militant trade union movement of the
Philippines, but also work to build concrete support for the Philippine workers movment
on the basis of international workers solidarrity as part of strengthening
the labour movement in North America.
The BCCHRP welcomes all to attend the evening event at
6 p.m. on February 22, 2004 at the Kalayaan Centre,
451 Powell Street, in Vancouver.

About the presenters: Mark Dimonstein is the Coordinator of North Carolina Labor
Against the War.
He is also the lead field organizer of the American Postal Workers Union (APWU).
Meliss Dimonstein is a postal worker and former Executive Board Member of the
Greensboro North Carolina Area Local of the APWU and currently serves as a
delegate to the Local Labor Council, AFL-CIO.
