Women's Centre Librarian
The Women's Centre Librarian will develop the administrative systems and research collection of the Women's Centre Library and assist campus users. We are looking for someone with an interest in developing relationships with students, faculty, alumni, and supporters of resources for women that assist the Library Collective in the development of the collection through acquisitions and donations. Preference will be given to an SFU student who can commit to a minimum of 3 consecutive semesters in the position.
This is a part time Term position flexibly scheduled at 15 hours per week in each semester, included in the Canadian Union of Pubic Employees (CUPE) Local 2396 at a wage rate of $17.71 per hour.

Duties:
The duties of the Librarian are as follows:
1. Update and manage the Library systems and collection (including selecting, ordering and buying materials with Library Committee and Collective input and approval), within reporting and budgetary systems, and cataloguing and processing of Library materials
2. Facilitate Library patron access and assist patrons with research
3. Maintain files, databases, administrative systems, supplies and equipment
4. Keep the Women's Centre Collective informed about the operations of the Library, and make recommendations to it regarding Library policies, procedures and activities as required.
5. Facilitate the participation of volunteers in library work through recruitment, training and support
6. Maintain and update the Women's Centre website
7. Attend biweekly meetings of the Women's Centre Collective.
8. Assist the Women's Centre Coordinator in the operations of the Women's Centre including the coordination of projects, services and other events of benefit to women at S.F.U.
9. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of resources available to women at SFU and in the community, and to assist women who phone or drop by the Women's Centre library/office with information, referral, crisis intervention and peer support as necessary
Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
1. Knowledge of post-secondary student organizations' structure and mandate
2. Library working skills and experience, including database maintenance, research, acquisition and library user assistance
3. Familiarity and/or experience with specialized resource libraries
4. Experience with user groups whose research interests come from in a wide range of academic disciplines
5. Experience with strategies for developing library collections
6. Ability to work in a self-supervisory, multi-task environment, within clear timelines
7. Strong interpersonal skills
8. Administrative ability and experience
9. Computing skills - in particular, using a MAC platform/operating systems: Word, FileMaker Pro, website management, email, internet research
10. Strong organizational skills
11. Ability and experience working within a feminist collective structure, using consensus decision-making
12. Experience with issues faced by women in an academic environment
13. Experience assisting women in crisis an asset
Preferred Skills:
1. Familiarity and/or experience with specialized resource libraries and library cataloguing database computer programs
2. Experience with user groups whose research interests come from in a wide range of academic disciplines
3. Experience with strategies for developing library collections
4. Experience with planning and coordinating events
Experience working with women from diverse backgrounds, including women of colour, Trans and Inter-sex woman, and lesbian women
