The Work Less Party Presents - Leisurely Yours Day
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Vancouver -- Even though productivity has more than doubled since the 1950's, Canadians are working 35% longer and harder to make more stuff that for the most part just winds up in landfills. "Produce, Produce!" is the cry we hear, yet what does all this insane effort really get us? Heart attacks, nervous breakdowns, alienated families, traffic jams, addictions to tranquilizers and painkillers, repetitive motion stress injuries, job burnout, and sudden berserk bursts of violence, to say nothing of global warming, destruction of wildlife habitat, climate change and frightening new diseases, as Nature struggles to slow us down.
On August 27, 2004, the Work Less Party will be staging three events in the Vancouver Downtown core in celebration of Leisurely Yours Day
Event 1:
We will release our newest and most devastating secret weapon. - "Tumbles The Speeding Tortoise" You are invited to join the Work Less Party and Constable W.R. Delayed on the corner of Granville and Georgia (2pm -> 3pm) and Robson and Burrard (3pm -> 4pm) as we issue Speeding Tortoise tickets to shoppers and business folk who are caught rushing through their lives at scandalous speeds.
The penalty? To "Walk the Tortoise" !!
Event 2:
On Robson Street all day, our doomsday professor will be walking with his sandwich-board, converting the shoppers. Repent Shoppers, the end of your work is nigh!
Event3:
Starting in the morning and continuing through out the lunch hour our Leisure Crew will be taking it easy. In front of the Bentall Center at Burrard and Hastings streets our hard-core Leisure Crew will be relaxing in their easy chairs and on their sofa, reading magazines, drinking lemonade, eating cookies off their coffee table and inviting others to do the same. Setting a good example in essential to effect change, and that's what they'll be doing, showing the business district that it is possible to take a break. Join the Leisure Crew!
