On May 6th 2004, the US announced that it was funelling $59million dollars into a four-pronged strategy of attacks on Cuba. This includes increasing the blockade, funding Miami-based terrorist groups and broadcasting illegal radio signals throughout the nation.
In Venezuela, there is similar pressure and attacks mounting. Internally, reactionary forces supported by the US are attacking the government, most recently with the presidential-recall referendum on August 15th 2004. The Venezuelan people turned out in record numbers to vote against the recall and marked a major victory for working people in Venezuela and around the world.
VCSC is holding a free day-long public conference to discuss the current imperialist aggressions toward Cuba and Venezuela and the opening of the new era of war and occupation in Latin America.
With speakers, films and discussion we will expand on why we should defend the self-determination of these sovereign nations and build a movement in solidarity with the people of Cuba and Venezuela and against imperialist intervention.
Saturday, August 21
11am-5pm
IWA Hall - 2859 Commercial Drive
(Commercial and 13th Ave)
