Construction has just begun on a massive project to build five towers, each
twenty stories tall, right above Wreck Beach,. The Wreck Beach Preservation
Society is spearheading a campaign to ask UBC administration to actually
consult with the community about the design and scope of the project since
there has been no public process about this project whatsoever. The towers
will be visible from the beach and ruin that magical sense you can get there
of having just left the city. They will also be a hazard for birds. But
really what's most outrageous to me is the complete lack of input or process
, the administration snuck this one by. If you share any of these or other
concerns about this project please take a quick minute to sign a petition at
<http://www.petitiononline.com/wreckbch/petition.html>
http://www.petitiononline.com/wreckbch/petition.html.
Please also come to a protest on Sunday May 9th at noon at the construction
site, which is above the entrance to the beach and just a bit South - South
of St. John's College and West of the Parkade. We're hoping to fill the
footprint of the building with people to take pictures. You can head on
down to the beach afterwards!
Please spread the word!
