Stop the Attacks on Workers at Home and Abroad!  Support Hospital Employees Union Workers! 

On Thursday April 22, Health Unions representing 43,000 workers issued their 72-hour legal strike notice. The job action that will be taken on Sunday April 25 is an escalation of the fight between Health workers in BC for their rights and the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) that has been ongoing for the past 3 years and has resulted in the loss of over 6,500 HEU member's jobs.

Since coming into power, the BC Liberals have effectively rolled back 30 years of pay equity gains for Health workers through privatization contracts. By breaking collective bargaining agreements and continuing to lay off workers, their attacks have not stopped. With 87% of members being women, and the Health services sector being the largest employer of women of color and women immigrants and refugees, these attacks are blatantly attacks on worker's rights but also attacks on the most marginalized sector of the work force. This cannot be seen as isolated from the attacks being carried out by the same imperialist government of Canada abroad on the working people of Afghanistan and Haiti, by the US and UK governments on the people of Iraq and other imperialist powers on people in third world countries from the Middle East to Latin America. No war fought overseas is ever without attack on the people living in the imperialist aggressors home nation. Support for the fight of the BC Health workers is support for struggling working people internationally.

This is a call out to all poor and working people in BC to support the HEU workers! Youth-Third World Alliance will actively support whatever job action is taken when the 72-hours are up on Sunday April 25 and urges all people in Vancouver to join and support Health workers in their fight. It is only when unified that we wield power against the forces of neo-liberalism and imperialist and together, we will win! 

Please join us and HEU on the picket lines at 4pm, Sunday April 25 at Vancouver General Hospital, Main Entrance.
