Written and directed by Iraqi born theatre director and playwright Muhammed 

Jurany, The play gives a contemporary twist to the ancient story. In this play, 

a 21st-century Jonah is persuaded to uproot his peaceful life and travel half 

way around the globe to save a city of foreigners from a purportedly evil 

tyrant. Jonah's journey to Ninevah is treacherous, so too the battle waged, but 

the crucial struggle is the one he fights within himself when he starts to 

question the real purposes of the war. 


This play questions the justifications of war in a spirit of comedy, allowing 

audience members to reach their unique conclusions.
