[van-announce] VSW continues to need your support regarding the City of Vancouver

Dear Friend and Ally, 
Thank you for your continued support to Vancouver Status of Women. As you may be aware, today marks the first day of provincial cuts and VSW continues to need your support to remain open. 

With the 100% cut to our core operating funding, we are also facing funding cuts from the City of Vancouver. The City of Vancouver has denied its support and is offering us a $16,000 termination grant, as opposed to the $31,000 we were offered last year. 

With the loss of our core funding, this termination grant is another blow and a huge attack to work we do in helping create self-determination for women's lives.

We are appealing and the recommendation and will go before the City of Vancouver Standing Committee on City Services and Budgets on:

Council Chamber, Third Floor, City Hall

If you wish to address the Standing Committee in support of VSW, please call Denise Salmon by Wednesday April 7 by 1:00pm at 604-873-7269.  Please let VSW know if you wish to speak. 

We ask that you write or fax in your endorsement for Vancouver Status of Women no later than April, 7th, 2004 to the Vancouver City Councillors. Please visit our website www.vsw.ca for City Councillors contact information.
