Vancouver Status of Women invites prospective volunteers to come to the Volunteer Information Session

Monday September 22
6:30

#309 - 877 East Hastings St.

Food provided.

We are a women's centre located in East Vancouver. We are a resource centre who engage in political action, research and community building.

We are always looking for new volunteers and activists who want to engage in strong feminist work. We are anti-racist, anti-colonial, anti-ableist, trans-inclusive, queer, anti-classest and fun as hell.

Some of our major projects are:

1) the Women and Welfare Project - a three year project researching the effects of welfare changes on women, creating resource materials to assist women (i.e.: Women Navigating the Welfare System), developing information sessions and programs for women engaging in the welfare system and launching a Public Education & Media Campaign for the general public and mainstream media regarding poor-bashing and debunking myths about welfare.

2) Anti-Oppression Working Group - a committee dedicated to researching and developing strong anti-oppression workshops. We train women within the centre and provide workshops for other activist/non-profit organizations or conferences in the community.

3) VSW's Feminist Information and Referral Line - a line used to give callers information about resources and services in the community. It is also the line for the Feminist Lawyer Referral. We need trained volunteers to give information to our frequent callers and constantly update our resources
