Fight Fight Fight welfare is a right!

The Anti-Poverty Committee led by the Housing Action Committee and the
Victory tent city squatters militantly marched to the Regional Executive
office of Human Resources. Because many of those demonstrating have been
forced out on to the streets to live, we took the streets and marched from
the downtown east side up into the financial district.

Behind banners reading FIGHT TO WIN! and NO HOMES, NO PEACE we chanted
“Poor people under attack, what do we do? Stand up fight back!” Holding
the intersections as we went we forced the yuppies in suites to
acknowledge the growing rage of homeless people. We let them know we
would no remain contained in our ghetto but will take our struggle to the
centers of power!

We marched to the Executive Office to pay a visit to David Butcher, the
man whose responsibility it is to re-evaluate the ministry's decision to
throw people off of welfare. Seeing first-hand more and more of our
brothers and sisters forced into the army of homelessness we feel David
the Butcher ain't doin a good enough job on our behalf. Our plan was to
inform him he was no longer needed and that we were taking over on behalf
of the people.

But no sooner then when we piled into the lobby where the police sent in
to protect and serve the people who throw us out into the streets from
behind their desks. We won a true victory when we refused to be
intimidated by the legion of cops. We stood our ground and stood strong,
refusing to cower and refusing to remain silent. The office was locked
down so we took back to the streets leaving behind our threat that we
will attack the bureaucrats 10 fold for every brother and sisters put out
onto the street.

We can only fight this war with your militant support and solidarity.
                           United we will win!
                         HAC, APC, VICTORY SQUAT
