you are invited, and your friends:

CRITICAL MASS bicycle celebration
this friday november 28th 2003
meet at vancouver art gallery
downtown vancouver 5 to 5:30pm
also BUY NOTHING DAY
err BURN NOTHING DAY

O O 0 0 o o . .

the ride leaves at 6pm
join a mass of other cyclists
simply riding together

we reclaim the public space of the street. there is shared conversation and
dialogue when we displace the private automobiles. physical safety and
comfort in the city is our desire. each participant is free to lead or to
follow. participate in democracy, even if only for a few fleeting hours.

why is this so "radical"? come see for yourself. it is a moving street
party open to all. it is not confrontational but joyous. we ride as
traffic, at a slow safe speed so that no one is left behind.

 >>OO
everybody is invited. just come under your own power: skateboards,
rollerskates, bikes, trikes, quadricycles, wheelchairs, office chairs,
unicycles, trailers roller couches, pogo sticks... some people even jog
along with no vehicle to ride. [it may be hard to keep up just by running
but everybody is welcome]

      hey
it's also going to be BUY NOTHING DAY this friday. that is the day after
american thanksgiving - which is the first OFFICIAL shopping day for
christ mas. but
critical mass is free.
buy nothing day is the pet project of http://www.adbusters.org magazine and
challenges people to live beyond consumption by making simple choices.
some people are calling it BURN nothing day in acknowledgment of the
relationship of burning oil and war making critical mass especially
relevant http://vancouver.indymedia.org/features/communityactivism/

. . o o O O
Critical mass happens on the last friday of every month in vancouver and
meets at the same time and place. Yep, that means 26 dec. [Boxing day] is
also a critical mass day. [And 30 jan...] Critical mass is also happening
around the world in other cities http://criticalmassrides.info/

There are no leaders or spokespeople, so it is very important that you
spread word of mouth the idea to everyone who might come and new people.
Invite your friend who is a car or bus user and lend her an extra bike to
use for the day. Invite cyclists you meet in the morning but don't know
their names. Yet. The more diverse a ride - the more creative - and better
for everyone.

There is also a website [http://www.bikesexual.org] and email list
[velolove at vancouver.indymedia.org] used by many critical mass people to
organise other happenings: some political, some social, all fun. Check
those out if you are interested in more. Or just come before 6pm to the
ride at the art gallery and talk to other riders. Usually before the ride
around 6pm people make announcements and those people know about ways to
get involved in other things. Or if you have your own ideas for people,
share them at announcement time. Critical mass changes, by participating
you help to organise. Help change it to be bigger or better.
