Dear Friends,

As a result of the escalating resistance to war and occupation on the ground in Iraq, which demands that the global antiwar movement take to the streets in solidarity with the struggling people of Iraq, Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO) has called the November 22nd day of action. As the global situation develops and the demand for frequent and dynamic mobilizations increases MAWO stands committed to responding to the resistance of the people of Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan as well as responding to the movement in Vancouver, in Canada and internationally. 

Wednesday October 29th was the inaugural meeting of the Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO), a dynamic new antiwar coalition, made up of more than fifteen endorsing groups and many committed individuals. MAWO was set up to organize mobilizations and educational events across the lower mainland against war and occupation and in solidarity with the resistance of oppressed people to occupation and imperialism. For the past week, members of MAWO have been active across the city in the streets, at events, on campuses and in many other places letting people know about the upcoming demonstration that is being planned for November 22nd and the Youth Against Occupation conference that is being organized by member-group Student Youth Committee Against War on November 29th.

 MAWO invites everyone who is interested in organizing to build an effective movement against war to come to our second meeting November 5th at the Britannia Learning Resource Center at Britannia Community Center (1661 Napier) at 6:30pm. Through MAWO we hope to contribute to building the movement in the lower mainland to its full potential - to grow to become a conscious, effective and active part of the global resistance.
