FOOL'S DAY PARADE KICKS OFF PROVINCE-WIDE "FOOLISHNESS WEEK"
(and Coronation of This Year's King of Fools)
     ------------------------------------------------------------

                     23rd Annual FOOL¹S DAY PARADE
Sunday, March 30th at High Noon
Meets at the Aquatic Centre (1050 Beach)
                        Beneath the Big Tree

The Fool's Day Parade, an annual Vancouver tradition, will be
a unique display of absurd dress, notions, and behaviour, as well
as the election for this year's King of Fools, and the public
is invited to join in the fun, both in or out of costume.

The parade, featuring floats, stiltwalkers, Human Beings In Silly
Costumes, and major hoopla, spotlights participants costumed as
the nominated Fools of the Year. Among this year¹s nominees are
Gordon, Curly, and Larry Campbell, Saddam Hussein, Avril Levigne,
George W. Bush, and Celine Dion.

Nominations were made by a select board under the auspices
of Vancouver¹s official Fools' Day Committee. Competition
for the Foolish Crown is fierce, as hopefuls vie for dominance
after weeks of preparation for contests in hula hooping, belly
flopping, tongue twisting and pie throwing.

Then, on Sunday at precisely 12:02, the Grand Procession will
be off, frolicking along the Seawall to the soothing strains
of bagpipes, taiko drummers, and the beloved "Carnival Band².

Finally, at English Bay, the King or Queen of Fools will be chosen
by the cheers of the crowd in attendance. Their public acclaim
will dub the winner National Fool of the Year, to reign as King
or Queen through March 31st, 2004.

Don¹t forget, the Parade is a send-off for Vancouver¹s annual
³Foolishness Week², proclaimed by Mayor Larry Campbell for April 1st
to the 8th. Not to be outdone, Premier Campbell has endorsed
³Foolishness Week² province-wide! View the official documents
at www.fools-society.com.

During this holiday observance, mirth, havoc, and nonsense will reign
supreme for one entire week. Given such broad 'Foolish License',
authorities are sure to be on their guard as of April 1st, as
the whipped cream will be flying thick and fast.

Though the Committee is sworn to secrecy, spokesmodel General Fool gave
a hint of surprises to come as he quipped, "the only solution in these
critical times is to respond with swift and utter foolishness".

Remember, the Parade happens rain or shine, on March 30th
at High Noon - so bring the family, with bells on!
