Dear Friends:

U.S. Consulate Vigil/Peace Camp Needs Your Support

The 24 hour Vigil at the U.S. Consulate at Portal Park, corner of W.
Hastings and Thurlow, that commenced at noon on Friday, March 14th has
continued unabatted and has grown into an ongoing Peace Camp. The media
are giving it heavy coverage, so if you want a chance to have your say, the
Vigil/Peace Camp at Portal Park, 1000 block W. Hastings, is the place to be!

As the Bushites make their final preparations for the slaughter of innocent
Iraqis it is incredibly important to show our unequivocal opposition to U.S.
war plans. One way to show your support is to get down to the Vigil/Peace
Camp, even for an hour or two, it will be greatly appreciated. Dress
warmly, bring food and water. Any donations of food, water, etc. to the
Peace Camp will really help. Already many individuals and businesses have
pitched in, including a donation of 1 dozen umbrellas.

StopWar.ca will not support war on Iraq even if the U.S. is successful in
bullying, browbeating and bribing enough countries into compliance for a
second UN resolution authorizing military force. Nevertheless, despite the
weakness of Prime Minister Chretien that Canada will not support war without
a second resolution we can take some justifiable pride that it is the
Peace/Anti-War movement that has helped create the political consciousness
among Canadians such that Chretien is wary of war. But we should go
further. Canadians should be demanding full withdrawl of the Canadian
Military exchange working with the U.S. Iraq invasion force. Canadians
should also be demanding withdrawl of Canadian forces from Afghanistan,
which is simply a backdoor way for Canada to participate in the Iraq
invasion by freeing up U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistant for
re-deployment to Iraq.

Please circulate this email and the information as broadly as possible.
Make your own poster for distribution. See you at the Vigil/Peace Camp!

In Solidarity,

Jef Keighley,
