MOBILIZATION FOR SOCIAL HOUSING
TUESDAY MARCH 4TH , 2 PM
WEST PENDER AND HAMILTON

The Housing Action Committee, supported by the Anti-Poverty Committee and 
Oust the Olympics, will be demonstrating for affordable housing.  
Homelessness expert Jean Chretien will be speaking at the Covenant House 
shelter.  Chretien knows all about homelessness because in his ten years as 
PM his government has not built affordable housing, homelessness has risen 
while child poverty rose over 2% (16%+).

WE DEMAND:
Funding For Social Housing, Shelters Are Not A Solution.

The Prime Minister is trying to smooth over this Olympic Bid by tossing 
worthless amounts of money into homeless shelters.  $20 million dollars 
spent on Vancouver shelters will not address the real issues that cause 
homelessness.  Lack of affordable housing, unemployment, worsening working 
conditions, rents rising, and general poverty cause homelessness.  Throwing 
money into shelters is but a band-aid on our collective wounds.  When our 
governments plan to spend over $6 billion on the Olympic Games, $20 million 
for homeless shelters is a concession to our demand and a slap in our faces.

The Housing Action Committee is a group of homeless persons, squatters, and 
those living in abject poverty.  We demand that the Federal and Provincial 
governments restore funding to social housing now!  Join us in this struggle 
for dignity.

SOCIAL HOUSING NOW, SHELTERS ARE NOT A SOLUTION!!!
