1000 Wheel Critical Mass Ride
Join Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell and other bicyclists, skaters, and bladers for the climax to Bike Month, the Thousand Wheel Ride -- a fun and celebratory ride through the streets of Vancouver -- on Friday, June 27, 2003. Meet rain or shine at the Vancouver Art Gallery on the Georgia Street side between 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. Decorated bicycles, signs, costumes, noisemakers, and wildly modified bicycles are all highly encouraged.
UBC Cyclists: Meet 4:30pm on the South SUB Plaza for a group ride down to the 1000 Wheel Ride.
East Van Cyclists: Meet 4:00pm, leaves 4:30pm, from Grandview park on Commercial Drive for a group ride down to the 1000 Wheel Ride.
Following the ride is an after-party to feature dancing, food, DJs, The Industrial Tyrants for Peace, burlesque dancers, and a bare-as-you-dare late night bike ride assisted by some of Vancouver's top body-painting artists.
The evening before, on Thursday, June 26, help promote the 1000 Wheel Ride on the Ontario Street bike route. Meet 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 6th Avenue and Ontario. Or help by postering or leafleting your own bike route.
Born in San Francisco in 1992, Critical Mass is a grassroots reclamation of public space -- on the last Friday of the month -- which allows cyclists and other self-propelled people to move safely and comfortably through the streets of Vancouver in a car-free space. Non-polluting forms of transportation are promoted.

1000 Wheel Critical Mass Party
o On January 3rd, Artists Against War gave Vancouver a sold-out anti-war art show of diverse talents at the WISE Hall with poets, bands, musicians, body painters and dancers;
o On February 22nd we sent a message to Canada and the world in the form of a peace sign on Sunset Beach spelled out with 64 naked bodies;
o On March 23rd we installed a 74-piece graveyard outside the Vancouver Art Gallery that reached into the living rooms of millions of homes across Canada;
o On April 4th we united some of Vancouver's most talented performers in a stunning sold-out anti-war show at the WISE Hall, culminating in a naked bike ride down Commercial Drive;
o On April 20th we gave expression to our sadness in a painting done with
the blood of 15 artists donated on location outside the American
consulate;
o On April 26th we showed how we as a community felt with a anti-war art exhibition...
