Britannia Beach screens on Tuesday, June 10th at 7:00 PM
Midway between Vancouver and Whistler, perched on the side of the picturesque Sea to Sky highway, is BC's ugliest landmark. The Britannia Copper mine used to be the largest in the British Commonwealth. Now, 25 years after its closure, it leaks more than a ton of heavy metals into Howe Sound each day. Britannia Beach is an intimate and bittersweet portrait of the townspeople living in the shadow of the mine and a document of their fight to have someone take responsibility for this most unnatural disaster.
We invite you to take part and lend your voice, and support, to the films and the issues that are distinctly British Columbia's own.
There is limited seating available, as we like to keep the discussion intimate, so you will need to reserve your seat in advance.
All screenings will begin promptly at 7:00PM. Doors open at 6:40. Screenings are held in Theatre B of the CBC at 700 Hamilton Street (at Georgia), Vancouver. Films are approximately 45 minutes in length. Refreshments will be provided afterwards. Please plan to stay until 9:15PM to take part in the discussions.
E-mail kim_lear at cbc.ca or call 604-662-6235 to reserve seats.
And get ready for the first broadcast of Docs on the Coast! Thursday, June 12th at 7PM you can catch Human Trials: Testing the AIDS Vaccine on CBC. For more information check out www.vancouver.cbc.ca
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
