SIX VANCOUVER COPS UNDER INVESTIGATION

WebPosted Jan 24 2003 09:11 AM PST CBC

VANCOUVER - A police source has confirmed six Vancouver police officers
have been
suspended over allegations they assaulted a trio of alleged drug dealers
from the
Granville Mall earlier this week.

The officers are accused of taking three young men in a police wagon to
Stanley Park where they were beaten.

Apparently, one young victim was so badly hurt, he had to be taken to
hospital.

The six officers have been suspended with pay while they are being
investigated.

Internal affairs investigators are reported to have broken open the
lockers of the six officers and seized their uniforms, boots and
batons.

The equipment will be sent to forensic analysis.

A police spokesperson is expected to comment on the case later on Friday
morning.
