Subject: [pr-x] International Women's Day 2003
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
International Women's Day, (IWD), is quickly approaching! Once again,
pro-choice women in Vancouver are organizing a March and Rally, Information
Fair and a Celebration Dance on Saturday March 8, 2003.
International Women's Day grew out of women's fight against inhumane
working
conditions in the late 1800's. The first IWD was celebrated in many
countries on March 8, 1911. Women in Canada have had a long history of
organizing for women's rights. Our theme "Women's Rights Have No Borders:
Unite for Universal Rights" speaks to the ever increasing negative effects
of globalization, capitalism and patriarchy. The devastating cuts to social
programs and jobs in BC mirror the continual erosion of living conditions
for women and their families all over the world.
We invite you and your members to be a part of this important event in one
or more of the following ways:
* Bring a banner and a bullhorn and attend the March & Rally. Gather at
the Thornton Park beside the Main Street/Science World Sky train Station
at 11:00 am. March to Victory Square (Pender & Hamilton). Rally begins at
Noon.
* Book an information table. The Info Fair will take place at the
Vancouver Community College (On West Pender between Hamilton & Cambie)
from 1 to 3 p.m. To book a table contact Judith at 604-708-0447 or by
email at jradovan at shaw.ca.
* Come to the IWD Celebration Dance on Saturday March 8th. Dance starts
at 8 pm at the WISE Club located at 1882 Adanac and Victoria. (Wheelchair
access is from the rear of building). Tickets are sliding scale from $5 to
$20 and will be sold at the door or may be purchased at Little Sisters and
Co-op Bookstore.
* Make a donation to the International Women's Day Organizing Committee.
Your donation will be used to pay for site & equipment rental, outreach
and childcare. Please make your cheque payable to International Women's
Day and mail it to: 1322 East 62 Avenue Vancouver, V5X 2H5.
