Historically women have been over-criminalized and over-incarcerated, and
it's about to get worse. On the heels of a complaint to the Canadian Human
Rights Commission over discriminatory treatment and the holding of
federally sentenced women in men's prisons, we see the federal government
building super maximum security prisons for women, and the B.C. government
unveiling plans to start locking up provincially sentenced women in men's
jails.
Video interviews from women in men's prisons, and a panel discussion with
Joint Effort - a women in prison support group; Shauna Paull, from Direct
Action Against Refugee Exploitation (DAARE); and activist, author
Karlene Faith will look at the future of women's imprisonment in B.C. and
across Canada
This event is a part of Radical Rhizome, a new series presented by Video
In dedicated to the merging of activism and experimentation in video.
Joint Effort, a women in prison support group. Joint Effort operates from
an abolitionist perspective and volunteer with the prisoners at Burnaby
Correctional Centre for Women.
