Hello,

The Access to Media Education Society (AMES) would like to invite your
organization to apply to participate in Get The Word Out (GWO), a fully
subsidized program that helps organizations like yours gain "hands-on" media
production experience while "getting the word out" about your causes and
concerns. In this round AMES is offering groups an opportunity to create a
one-minute public service announcement (PSA) for broadcast on the web and/or
television. PSA's are an amazing way to get your organization or groups
message out there.

Making an effective PSA demands that the message you want to convey is CLEAR
and that you are sure of who you want to reach with that message. Given the
short production time-line it’s essential that those decisions are made
before you begin the process with us. The enclosed "concept development"
sheet can help guide this discussion.

WHO can APPLY?

Organizations and coalitions of all shapes and sizes:
o that want to create PSA about a pressing issue or event for screening on
the web or TV.
o that have 2-4 staff or members who want to learn how to make compelling
media messages and who are willing to commit 10 eight hour days to this
project between March 1st and April 15th, 2003.

If selected, we will provide your organization with free (or heavily
subsidized, depending on your organization's objectives and financial need)
access to:

o instructors with all of the scriptwriting and filmmaking know-how to guide
your organization through the creation of PSA, and
o all the technology, co-ordination and supplies required to do so.

WHAT will the SELECTION be BASED on?

o financial need
o the clarity and potential effectiveness of the proposed idea
o the urgency of raising the profile of the issue your organization wants to
tackle
o your organization’s capacity to undertake a project of this nature
o the expressed commitment of at least 3 members/staff

We are open to joint applications, but aren’t keen on projects that are
geared towards funders (unless you demonstrate extenuating circumstances).
We will be selecting 3 projects during this round and will do a call out for
another 3 in early May.

WHO is AMES?

For those who aren’t familiar with the Access to Media Education Society
(A.M.E.S.), we are a registered non-profit (est. 1996) dedicated to making
media training and technology widely accessible. A key focus of the Society
is to empower groups who are traditionally marginalized in the mainstream
media with the tools to take control over the representation of their own
stories and ideas and to increase public understanding of a number of social
justice issues. We currently have production and post-production facilities
operating out of both Galiano Island and East Vancouver.
