Active Community Presence
The Two-year time limit Coalition is engaged in a campaign to mobilize all
communities to fight the welfare cuts. We, as a coalition, represent
dozens of diverse organizations and will work in our communities to
educate and inform each other about the impacts that the cuts will have on
all of us. We will organize on the streets and in the welfare offices to
create a movement of people who will stop this provincial government. We
will participate in direct-action casework to ensure that the rights and
dignity of welfare recipients are respected. This hands-on advocacy will
bring our struggle to the front lines where we will win!
The 'Active Community Presence' campaign will begin on Monday December 22.
People living on welfare, assisted by advocates and supporters will visit
different offices. The presences at these different offices will be
coordinated to happen at roughly the same time so that as many different
offices in as many different communities can be held at once in solidarity
with one another.
Coordinated 'community presences' will happen every Monday from now until
the two-year time limit is defeated. The actions will range from
leafleting to casework to occupations. All participating organizations
will act in the way that they are most comfortable with. United we stand,
diverse we advance!
Every month on the Monday before that month's check date the offices
chosen will share a theme. This will bring more attention to the larger
issues playing out in the Provincial Government's agenda. For example on
January 19 we will organize as many groups to visit the 6 welfare offices
that are to be closed this April.
We ask that you and your organization actively support this campaign. 1.
That groups, on the Mondays that they are available, participate in the
'Active Community Presence' Campaign in the methods that they choose i.e.
leafleting, casework, occupations 2. That we share our contacts and
resources in order to mobilize as many people as possible so that we can
stop the liberals and their cuts, once and for all
