First Annual Latin American Film Festival
Where:
Pacific Cinemateque
When:
Sunday, 14th of September 2003 from 1:00 PM until approximately 3:00 PM
VANCOUVER-Aug 25, 2003- LAFFV will be showcasing a
variety of Latin American films on the 14th, 15th and
16th of September at the Pacific Cinemateque. The
lineup includes a selection of full-length features
and documentaries, as well as a number of short-length
films from countries such as Mexico, Spain, Venezuela,
Chile and Canada.
The highlight of this years festival is the
showcasing of the award-winning documentary Senorita
Extraviada by Lourdes Portillo on Sept 16th at 7pm.
In her film, Portillo examines the kidnapping, rape
and murder of over 200 Mexican women living along the
US-Mexican border town of Juarez, Mexico.
On Sept 15th at 7pm the Venezuelan film, Macbeh El
Sangrador by Leonardo Henriquez is being presented.
The combination of Latin American and Shakespearean
elements produces a film that is both provocative and
unique.
For this years festival opening, we are showcasing
the widely popular Spanish film, Ao Mariano by Karra
Elejalde and Fernando Guillen Cuervo, on Sept 14th at
1pm. This is a comedic, yet critical view of the media
and its pervasiveness in society.
