Stop the Deportation of Bilquees and Imran!
Free the Cuban 5!
 
Join a presence of Protest and Resistance at the corner of Georgia and Homer (at the Vancouver Public Library): Noon on Monday August 25th
 
Fire This Time will be setting a table up against the deportation of Bilquees and Imran, a 63 year old Pakistani refugee and her son, who are in detention in Montreal. We demand that they be released from detention, that CIC end the harassment of them immediately, that they have their welfare and medical coverage restored immediately, and that they be granted full status in Canada. 
 
Fire This Time set up this table and held a strong presence on Tuesday and Thursday last week with great success. We collected over 200 signed letters and talked to hundreds of people. We were met with tremendous support and with brutally racist reactions. There were many lively discussions about immigration and refugee policy in Canada in the time of the "war on terrorism". The case of Bilquees and Imran exposes these policies as the racist tools of the Canadian government and big business that they are.

Youth Third World Alliance is setting up a table for freedom for the Cuban 5 at the same time. 
 
The Cuban 5 are five Cubans who were trying to stop ultra-right terrorist groups in Miami from carrying out actions against the people of Cuba. The 5 discovered links between these groups and the US government. When they reported this information, they were arrested by the US government and tried as spies. They were sentanced to life and double-life sentances and are right now scattered in penetentaries throughout the US.
 
This case is a clear example of the US war against Cuba and Latin America and all of the third world. These five have not only been unjustly tried and sentanced individually; they have been aggressively stopped from defending their independant country and their people from imperialist attack.
 
Fire This Time and Youth Third World Alliance invite you to come out to this presence of protest and opposition to educate people on the street and to gather support and solidarity for Bilquees, Imran and the Cuban 5 against US and Canadian racism and imperialism.
